#MaskingForAFriend

June 16, 2020

I had a great time working on this awareness campaign by Vertigo Theatre to bring attention to the necessity of vigilant masking practices, combined with a hopeful message for the theatre community, which was among the hardest hit by the pandemic.

Here is the whole series of images from the campaign as well as the accompanying messages of hope that each participant highlighted about their own masking practice. I encourage you to take the time to read and internalize how important this act is right now. <3

“We miss you, Calgary. The time will come to return. Until then stay strong!”

Anna Cummer wears a mask as an example to her kids, showing them how important it is to work as a community to protect the more vulnerable among us.

Chris Hunt wears a mask for his mom Connie, and all the other folks in seniors facilities.

Braden Griffiths wears a mask for his parents: both in their 60's and both with health concerns that fall squarely inside the crosshairs of COVID's worst proclivities.

Kristen Padayas wears a mask for everyone around her.

"I'm wearing a mask for my fellow Asian Canadians- particularly the folks at Cargill, newcomers, and other frontline workers who continue to work despite an alarming increase of anti-Asian racism. I see you. I stand with you. " - Jenna Rodgers

Stephen Hair wears his mask in memory of Georgie Collins, Founder of Vertigo Theatre.

Craig Hall wears a mask for all of the teachers. Your world was turned upside down but you've persevered and have kept our kids as your top priority.

Mark Bellamy wears a mask for YOU! For all of the arts patrons who are patiently waiting until the time we can all reunite and share some great theatre, dance, music, ballet, opera… whatever your taste, he's doing everything he can so we can stay healthy and get back to what we love!

Mayor Naheed Nenshi wears a mask for all Calgarians. Especially for his mother who is 79 years old.

Griffin Cork and Karen Johnson-Diamond are wearing their masks for Grandpa, Bumpa and Oma.

Duve Lang wears a mask on behalf of all lovers of live theatre who are missing the opportunity to collectively share a good story told well.

Kathi Kerbes wears a mask for our future.
