The freeform Dance series
The collision of two of my deepest loves: capturing performance and capturing the heart of an artist. An unreleased series from 2013.
I had a few close dance friends over to StudioN/A, my previous home, to create improvised movement with me and see what came of it. No lighting and no set up: just come as you are and explore this mostly empty room. I wanted to document dancers’ organic physicality and also the internal process that they go through as they create.
The task then was to improvise movement of my own, composing-on-the-fly very much like my approach to shooting performing arts, but now in my own space.
A captivated, participatory audience of one.
