veronica

Veronica generously gifted me with the word “drawn” just prior to this shoot. We mutually described a want to collaborate as a feeling of being drawn towards one another’s creative energies - a description I now use for much of this series. I’ve seldom found wording as apt as that to describe what is otherwise an ethereal kind of feeling. We’d crossed paths in the community a couple of times, hardly having a chance to exchange words. But I just knew there was a connect.

Her animated expressions and wild enthusiasm had me immediately aware that we were gonna be breaking out some magic in the studio that day. She’s the kind of generous artist that is willing to hold a pose upside-down as long as humanly possible in order to get a shot. Her energy was kind, insightful, and she came armed with as many ideas for the day as I did, if not more.

These portraits were actually the first set in a long afternoon of creating. Veronica rolled up on the studio with LED hoops, a myriad of outfits, and a deep purple pompadour that might’ve melted my brain a little. We shot these first because we knew that by the end her hair would be flattened as well as covered in dust and glitter. No matter! Art was made! That work is all part of the yet-to-be-released series this summer - one of the many brilliant shoots that were criminally backburnered over the last while…

A petite flurry of movement and a warm, inviting cheshire smile. I’m incredibly grateful for this day.
