kim

There’s a picture of Kim’s legs en pointe in ballet shoes that is one of my wife’s favourite dance photos of all time. Its like a dozen years old now, yet remains an iconic photo in our home. Another of Kim in a huge tutu, one of the most powerful dance images from my Lumination series, hangs over my desk in my office.

Kim and I have had some truly random adventures in dance photography... We once drove around southern Alberta looking for abandoned structures to shoot in and ended up in a detached semi truck trailer in the middle of a farm field. That same day we drove my car out onto an ice fishing lake to shoot on the glassy ice beneath us. It was brilliant, and my little car did not plunge through in the end!

This sitting was roughly 12 hours before she flew back to New York to resume her dance training. During the session she absolutely ruined my Spotify algorithm with a 90s banger playlist that was like 80% Limp Bizkit. At the same time we got to experiment with light, catch up on life, and really come to realize just how our creative lives have been connected. Kim is the kind of artist that I’ve always been grateful to know and hope to continue crossing paths with throughout my career.
